Field Carpenter

Display Group is seeking a Field Carpenter to join our exciting, growing business! As Field Carpenter, this role will lead the on-site execution of our Custom Prop Fabrication builds with precision, creativity, and leadership. The ideal candidate is a hands-on expert in carpentry and scenic construction who can direct on-site crews—including in-house team members, subcontracted labor, and union carpenters—to ensure high-quality, on-time installations that meet design specifications and safety standards. This candidate will also be supporting our in-house shop staff on an occasional basis. 

Role and Responsibilities: 

  • Lead on-site installation of custom-fabricated props, displays, and stage sets 
  • Direct and oversee work of crew members, including union and subcontracted labor
  • Interpret and work from build drawings, renderings, and technical documentation 
  • Ensure all installations meet company standards of quality, safety, and aesthetic 
  • Collaborate with project managers, designers, and fabrication teams to resolve challenges on-site 
  • Maintain tools, materials, and equipment necessary for installations 
  • Uphold the general safety of team members when on-site and in the shop 
  • Represent the company professionally in high-pressure, client-facing environments 
 

Prerequisites: 

  • 5+ years of carpentry experience, with at least 2 years in scenic carpentry or prop fabrication required
  • Minimum of 2 years managing a team preferred; leading crews in the field or managing union labor a plus 
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly, stand for long periods of time, and work at varying height levels required 
  • Has a working knowledge of graphic installation 
  • Proficiency in the use of power tools and other carpentry equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and construction documents
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt quickly on-site.
  • Familiarity with scenic materials (wood, foam, plastics, metals) and construction techniques
  • Must be comfortable with regular travel and irregular working hours during event installs
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred, but not required
