Our new tables and chairs mix industrial metals with natural wood materials, creating a gorgeous finished product!  The two contrasting materials combine to create a down-home feel that can easily be dressed up or dressed down to fit the style of your event. Adding a crisp white table runner and florals create a beautiful and classy environment or leave the furniture as is and dress-down your event, making it an inviting and casual soiree. We have something for any type of event, big or small.

Carnevale di Venezia at the DIA

Any event held in the world famous DIA – especially within the Riviera court, is almost always guaranteed to be stunning, which is why we here at the Display Group love getting the opportunity to produce an event in that gorgeous space. When the DIA’s Founders Junior Council approached us to help with an event, we were ecstatic. The event, Carnevale di Venezia, was to mirror of the famous Carnival of Venice, known for its elaborate costumes and baroque masks.

Getting the party started.

 

In order to recreate this fabulous Venetian Carnival, Display Group had to pull out all of the stops; combining our elegant furniture with custom made décor. Our gorgeous mahogany bar was placed stylishly in the middle of the room; the expansive bar served many guests with ease and the beauty of the design kept the event feeling upscale. We created intimate seating areas with our posh black and white sectional furniture, alternating in a checkered pattern and accented with the colorful pop of pillows and gold leaf trays. Draping our fully customizable (hyperlink) Cube Tables with colorful fabric and lighting from within created a playful feel inside the regal DIA. Colorful lighting bounced off of the already beautiful surroundings, creating a dazzling and inviting place to let loose.
A focal centerpiece of the evening was our custom designed and built centerpieces which sprouted from our plush white leather ottomans. Designed to evoke the playfulness and ornate nature of the event, these custom black, red and white centerpieces stood tall as a work of art, even when placed in the center of one of the most beautiful art museums in the country.

The event went off without a hitch and people enjoyed our version of the Carnevale di Venezia without worrying about sinking into the canals of Venice.

Corporate Events Are Going Above And Beyond With Themes

It’s one thing to put on a corporate event like a seminar, a trade show, or an incentive meeting — it’s quite another to put on an event that people will remember by the time the next fiscal quarter rolls around. When you put on a corporate event with a strong theme, you get an even more memorable and engaging event, with the same or better end result.

As a side benefit, if organized correctly, you can put a damper on the drinking — or not, depending on how you execute the theme, naturally.

We’ve been paying attention, and we’ve put together a list of some of the more interesting corporate events we’ve seen around and about.

Secret Agent (Wo)Man

A variation on the naughties’ murder mystery party: give every person who comes a ‘secret identity’ and the job of identification and capture of a notorious villain that’s been lured to the event. The actual meat of the event is ‘disguised’ as an excuse for everyone to be there even though it makes up the bulk of everyone’s time and attention.

 

Walk the Decades

One of Display Group’s favorites, a Walk the Decades party starts on one end of the hall with a 1920′s style setup, and evolves decade by decade as you walk around the room, up to an ultra-modern laser show and dance floor on the far side. Great for a look back at your corporation’s role in American history from the turn of the century.

Planning Your Hollywood Theme Prom

hollywood theme 300x225 Planning Your Hollywood Theme PromWhen it comes to your Prom, you want to make sure that yours is the best it can possibly be and the best way to ensure this is to make sure you have plenty of time for planning. Now that you have a theme, you can start taking the steps needed to make that theme come to life! Make a checklist that includes everything you’ll need for planning a Hollywood Prom theme, such as food, music, and decorations.

Choose an Era
If there is a particular era of Hollywood glamour that is especially appealing, the theme can be made so that it represents this particular time in Hollywood. For example, if there are a lot of celebrity styles from the 1940′s Hollywood scene that is found to be especially appealing then the Prom theme could be ‘The 1940′s: Hollywood Glamour’.

Food. The food you choose should match the food served in the particular era you have chosen. For example, the 1940′s saw lots of hors d oeuvres served so there can be a play on serving food in that everything is served in the form of an hors d oeuvre.

Music. The music should also fit the era, and using the 1940′s again as an example, we can see that there was lots of jazz and big bands with swing dancing being the popular dance style in this particular era.

Decorations. The decorations are extremely important as they are able to create the atmosphere, giving your Prom the ability to transport you to another place and/or time.

Good To Know
Be sure to include as much information regarding the Hollywood theme as possible, even providing suggestions for how everyone can participate.

Art Van – New York Theme

We recently created a New York theme for an Art Van New York Gala fundraiser that raised funds for Shoot for a Cure. Part of the theme included custom graphics and decor for the various neighborhood displays and performance theater. Inside Art Van’s 14 Mile Road store we created 15 separate vignettes that reflected different New York neighborhoods and novelties.

Highlights included:

  • Soho: with a DJ, fashions, models, signature cocktail and sushi bar
  • Chinatown: Hundreds of red paper lanterns, Chinese finger foods, geisha dancers and custom fortune cookies
  • Little Italy: Café tables, gourmet Italian foods and crooners
  • Central Park: Greenery, park benches, soft pretzels with gourmet dipping sauces, and vendors for ice cream and hot dogs.
  • Financial District: Stock tickers, the Wall Street Journal and fun foods served on skewers.

Down to the spools of film arranged next to a life size, vintage camera, we arranged a paradise that had guests relaxed and entertained before they sat down on the plush, contemporary yellow chairs. With lush foliage framing the decadent walls of the Emerald City and life size cutouts of Dorothy, the Scarecrow and Tin Man, the environment effectively reproduced the sentiments from the movie. Drawing on our talented staff and resources (we have a 200,000 sq. ft. rental facility, full to the brim with props, knick knacks, and costumes), we were able to set a scene for an evening that guests will never forget.

Display Group was recently recognized for their extensive collection of props for movie and theater in the Detroit Free Press article Prop supply on the rise in Michigan We have worked with multiple movie companies over the years with our 4 flours of props filling up 200,000 square feet of our warehouse.

There’s also an excellent interview video that not only tells you more about Display Group and our theme and prop collection but it also shows you how big and extensive that collection is.

Local businesses like Display Group, an events and design company in Detroit, have evolved their trade to appeal to the Michigan’s burgeoning film industry.

“We do a lot of the big, high-profile events and corporate events that are here in Detroit and Michigan,” said Display Group President Rick Portwood. “A lot of those pieces that we use to create these scenes for events can also be used for the movie industry.”

Display Group has four floors of its warehouse dedicated to storing everything and anything — 1950s telephones, mummies and giant slot machines.

“It’s kind of endless,” said Portwood. “You almost have to walk around to see it all.”

Compuware – Global Sales Training Event

We recently created the decor for Compuware’s FY2011 Sales Event. The challenge was to play off of Compuware’s involvement with the Lemans racing series. The focus of the evening was to drive sales success! This was a great theme event that also incorporated custom banner work with the client’s name. An event that left the client happy and the employees with an event to remember!
