Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

The Maker Faire is universally viewed as the most happening event in Detroit for any would be inventor or entrepreneur. The two-day faire integrates arts, crafts, food, and music with science, engineering and technology. Display Group used this backdrop to design an interactive display on behalf of Maker Faire’s title sponsor, Compuware Corporation. Display Group’s unique design embraced the technological innovation of the Faire to reflect Compuware’s position in the marketplace. A custom-branded aluminum structure provided an iconic focal point for the display, while soft seating and an aluminum bar offered easy access and a flowing transition into the booth. The end result was a display that welcomed attendees and provided utilitarian appointments to the Compuware staff.

Event Décor
The new product/service will be the center of attention for the night, so understanding that the environment needs to be set in such a way that supports the item being launched is critical.

Location. The event location sets the first impression, making it a great idea to make sure it ‘fits’ the particular product/service being launched. Research a few nearby facilities to see which one can best accommodate your particular needs.

Impress! Take into consideration the type of product and/or service in order to make the environment match the item being launched. Enhancing Event Attendee Retention

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

event attendee retention Enhancing Event Attendee RetentionWhen delivering a corporate meeting or event, there are always two costs that must be considered. The first, which is obvious, is the price tag associated with having the tangible elements included in the actual event: transportation, accommodations, sound, light, video, entertainment, décor, food and beverage, swag, etc. These are the costs that meeting and event planners often look at when considering how their event will be delivered… and typically how their budget is defined.

However, the second cost is just as important and considerably less obvious: How much work is being lost just by having your attendees not sitting in their office doing their jobs? This intangible expense emphatically drives home the need for your attendees to retain the actual message being delivered. If you spend $100,000 on a meeting or event, and no-one remembers the message, you’ve lost twice that amount!

Reinforcement is at the heart of message retention. Delivering the message, repeating the message and delivering it again are simple activities that can help in message retention. But there are other, more subtle ways to do so. Hiring entertainment that supports the message is one example. If your message is the need for more flexibility, why not hire a Cirque Contortionist to support it, or if you want to talk about the need for better coordination, hire Rhythm Extreme or a different dance troupe to demonstrate it. The bottom line is that the message itself, delivered with a single presenter using a slide show will not have the same impact as using visual, audible and tactile stimulation.

It is called experiential marketing, and it is the experience that creates long-term retention. When you plan your next meeting or event, think about how your audience will receive the message. Are they simply taking up space in the audience, or are they active participants in the way the message is being delivered? Do they have a voice and is it an experience? The answers to these questions will determine the success of your program.

Art Van – New York Theme

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

We recently created a New York theme for an Art Van New York Gala fundraiser that raised funds for Shoot for a Cure. Part of the theme included custom graphics and decor for the various neighborhood displays and performance theater. Inside Art Van’s 14 Mile Road store we created 15 separate vignettes that reflected different New York neighborhoods and novelties.

Highlights included:

  • Soho: with a DJ, fashions, models, signature cocktail and sushi bar
  • Chinatown: Hundreds of red paper lanterns, Chinese finger foods, geisha dancers and custom fortune cookies
  • Little Italy: Café tables, gourmet Italian foods and crooners
  • Central Park: Greenery, park benches, soft pretzels with gourmet dipping sauces, and vendors for ice cream and hot dogs.
  • Financial District: Stock tickers, the Wall Street Journal and fun foods served on skewers.

How to Recognize Corporate Event Sponsors

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

corporate sponsors wall 179x300 How to Recognize Corporate Event SponsorsWith sponsorship dollars limited in today’s economy, proper recognition of event sponsors is critical. You need to let your sponsors know that they’re appreciated and that they are getting good visibility at the event for their support. One critical area to recognize sponsors is in any printed or web based materials, which logos should be included, if possible.

At the event, take advantage of putting sponsor names in front of your audience. Placing event sponsor logos in high traffic areas with light walls ensures they will get good visibility. Placing a sponsor logo at the entrance of the event or at the registration area is a great way to put them in the spotlight. It’s important for attendees to know who helped make the event a success.

If you are using any Audio Visual for other aspects of the program, it’s simple to add sponsor logos and no extra cost. Ask you AV provider how they would need the files, and they should be able to take care of it for you.

How to Recognize Event Sponsors

Depending on the scope of your event, there are several ways to thank sponsors. For simple events, sponsors may be recognized on signs at registration or main thoroughfares. Any existing Audio Visual assets should be used, and at no additional cost in most cases. You can also mention them specifically during the program.

For higher profile events, lighted towers and walls, step & repeat logo walls, and exclusive access to VIP areas are all popular ways to recognize their generosity. Gobo lighting, which projects logos on walls, ceilings or floors, may also be utilized to highlight sponsors. Like your attendees, you want sponsors to enjoy themselves, and most importantly be back again next year.
